Well, our vacation has been put on hold because Lisa needs another ultrasound done, so we decided to pack up the dog and take a car trip to Port Hope.
Avoiding the highway (because frankly, what’s a road trip worth if you take the highway?), we exited at Mill St. down to the shores of Lake Ontario and stopped at a small park at the Port of Newcastle.

- Don’t know it’s purpose, but it’s pretty.

- Jealousy, thy name is boat.

- Oh Wicket, you big ham, you…
Continuing down Lakeshore Road was an adventure unto itself, with the craziest bridge I’ve ever crossed in a vehicle, a train whistle that scared both Wicket and myself (because we couldn’t see a train – I actually panicked and checked my rearview mirror!) and beautiful houses and farmland.

After the relaxing drive, and missing the farmer’s market by 10 minutes, we finally arrived, only to find out there was a street festival on called the “Sizzling Summer Sidewalk Sale.”

- The Capitol Theatre, one of Canada’s last operating ‘atmospheric’ theatres. More info here.

- Doggie Fashion Show. They’re lucky we didn’t have a costume for Wicket, she’d win her second costume competition.

- I’m a sucker for antiques. There are about 11 antique shops just along this downtown stretch.

- The architecture is unbelievable. The town was the winner of TVO’s Best Preserved Mainstreet in Ontario, maintained from the 19th Century!
And of course, me being me, I can’t help but ply my trade when I find a really cool looking wall and someone I know standing beside it (even if it is my wife wearing a funny hat).

We picked up some honey from Dancing Bee Apiaries and some baby stuff from Higglety Pigglety including a hair band from Baby Bloomz for baby shots and, my favourite, the coolest shirt that will predict Baby’s future career! More on that later…When we finally left (not just because Wicket peed on an outdoor carpet in front of a women’s clothing store), we headed to a shop suggested by a friend called Primitive Designs. Holy crow, if you’re ever on the 401 through Port Hope, do yourself a BIG favour and head to this store, just slightly north on County Rd. 28.

- I’m going to buy this for the cottage and put it right at the shoreline. It’s only $4 500 before taxes, and imported from Timor…

- Who would win in a fight, Ganesh or a Predator made from metal plates and bike chains?

- Huge wooden Spider-Man? Yes, please!

- Just an aerial view.
We finally went home for hamburgers on the new grill and a quick nap, and then abandoned a plan to hit the 5 Drive-In to see Jonah Hex and Inception. Not my idea. I’m no dummy, when a pregnant lady says we’re staying in for the night, we’re staying in for the night. But tomorrow…
